A unit of Greek industrial group Mytilineos SA (FRA:MYH) has acquired a 15% stake in an Australian project that aims to produce green hydrogen with solar energy and use it in transportation.
The investment of Mytilineos Energy & Metals into the 560-MW Rosedale project will back its first stage of development, the Greek company said on Monday. The scheme is owned by Australian green hydrogen developer Clara Energy.
The Rosedale project calls for the construction of a green hydrogen complex in Tarcutta, near Gundagai in New South Wales, which will produce green fuel for around 800 heavy-duty vehicles. The manufacturing process will use electricity coming from an 800-MW solar photovoltaic (PV) park to be built in proximity.
The project’s first stage will set up 250 MW of production capacity, with the output planned to supply 200 heavy-duty vehicles.
Last summer, Clara Energy joined hands with compatriot Hydrogen Fuels Australia (H2FA) to create a network of refuelling stations to distribute the green hydrogen. It then said the complex would begin operations by 2025, producing 25,000 kg of hydrogen per day as a start.
